Child Safety Consultants

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

Are you having a hard time figuring out how to make your home as safe as it can be for your child? Do you see yourself making major changes in the house to ensure a child-friendly environment?

Before you make any more unnecessary changes in your house, you might be better off acquiring the help of child safety consultants. These people are capable of creating a safe home for you, your children, and even your pets. They have the extensive knowledge on the potential hazards that are common in homes. Parents will also be provided with information on the risks that they might have otherwise missed knowing. The child safety consultants do not just point out the dangers present in your home, but are experts in creating safety plans as well.

Most parents do not know that there are actually people who can help them make their homes as safe as they want them to be. Some of those parents who have been doing the childproofing themselves, often end up with child safety products and equipment that are practically useless or unnecessary. Child safety consultants get rid of this problem. They are the most reliable people to ask about the hazards in the house and the possible ways to eliminate them. You are not left with the guesswork on how to keep you little one off the stairs or how to stop him from putting his hand in the oven.

Child safety consultants do not create a 100% child safe house. They do not guarantee to keep your kid from having tumbles and falls, but they do lessen the level of “danger” that your kid might get into.

Child safety consultants work by surveying your home. They have to know every nook and corner of the house and would need to go through every room so as to come up with a thorough child proofing plan. Parents should be prepared to be asked questions regarding their lifestyle so that the plan that the child safety consultants produce would fit well into their lives.

Parents can set their budget, although if you re thinking of maxing out their services, you would leave it up to them to provide you with the plan and the estimate of the costs. The child safety consultants can also help parents acquire the most affordable and the most reliable child safety products in the market. Most of them even offer initial consultation services free of charge.

Child safety consultants are hired by parents whose main concern is the safety of their children. There are parents who d rather create the childproofing plan and execute it themselves. However, with the children s safety as the main issue, why compromise?

Water And Phoenix Real Estate

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

If you really know your American history (and/or have ever read the book or seen the PBS documentary Cadillac Desert) you understand full well that settlement of the West and water issues are inextricably bound particularly in desert areas like Phoenix.

The fact is that without water, there would be no Phoenix AZ real estate – nor the city of Phoenix proper, for that matter. Fortunately, the Gila River is nearby, as well as a number of creeks and reservoirs. Over 1300 years ago, these enabled the Hohokam People to grow crops on the exceptionally fertile land. Almost a century before the time of King Charlemagne, the Hohokam created a highly developed civilization in the Valley of the Sun that endured for seven centuries. Their systems of irrigation canals formed the basis of the modern metro area’s water systems today.

Those of you planning to invest in Phoenix real estate or settle down in the area will do well to remember however that Maricopa County is a desert. Water is a precious resource, and in order to maintain the quality of life we enjoy in this area, it is important to practice water conservation.

Many Phoenix homes are landscaped using the native vegetation within attractively designed rock gardens. While a home with a traditional lawn may appear to have greater value, the cost – both financially and ecologically – of maintaining a lawn will be high and not a particularly wise use of resources.

It’s also popular to have private swimming pools in climates such as we have here in the Phoenix area. Aside from tremendous drain on local water resources, your Phoenix real estate agent will advise you that a swimming pool, while lifting your property’s value, represents a considerable investment in terms of maintenance and a potential liability as well. The possibility of someone being injured or drowned in your swimming pool is something that home insurers take into consideration when determining risk and potential liability.

In general, when planning to settle down in Maricopa County, it’s good to consider living in harmony with the environment rather than attempting to adapt it to your own tastes. Choose a home with environmentally-friendly, less water intensive landscaping. Make sure your home has low-flow toilets and shower heads – then learn all you can about water conservation. The Arizona Department of Water Resources at azwater.gov is a good place to start learning about the latter topic.

Mr Hemrick is well versed in the real estate market in and around Phoenix Arizona. With over 20 years experience in the Phoenix real estate industry, Wayne helps you to find the right Phoenix homes for sale in the area.

Rising Raisins and Pop Bottle Fountains – A Science Inquiry Experience – Part 2

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

In Part 1 of this experience, students worked with “Rising Raisins”. There they found that bubbles prefer to form on a surface and just not come out of solution on their own. Here, we take that knowledge and attempt to get lots of bubbles to form in one small area to create a “Pop Bottle Fountain”.

For this, you will need a two liter bottle of seltzer water. Soda will work fine but it tends to make a sticky mess. Seltzer water will just evaporate leaving no sticky residue. As far as clean-up is concerned, seltzer water is the winner.

You will also need a hammer, nail, a piece of string about two feet long, some tape, and a candy Menthos. Menthos are mint flavored chewy candies found in the grocery check-out. There are six or eight in a package.

Have the students make observations about a Mentho. They will note that its white, smooth, and not round. Ask them to observe the shell more closely. It really isn t as smooth as it appears on first glance. What do you think will happen if we place this in seltzer water?

Carefully remove the cap from the seltzer bottle. Some gas will escape. Don t worry. Place the cap on the sidewalk so that the top is facing up. In this way something could be hidden under it, but that s not what is going to happen. Using the hammer, pound the nail through the top of the cap to make a hole. You are done with the hammer and nail.

Run the string through the hole so that the cap is halfway up the string. Attach one Mentho to the end of the string that is going into the cap. Use some tape to do this. This attachment will be flimsy at best. Draw the attached Mentho up into the bottle cap by pulling on the string that leaves the top of the cap. Screw the cap (with the Mentho inside) tightly onto the bottle. Do not let the Mentho touch the seltzer water. You re ready for the fountain. Make sure it is pointing at no one.

Count down, “Three, two, one!”, and pull the string. The Mentho will be freed from the string and tape and drop into the seltzer water. There, the Mentho will provide lots of surface for bubbles to form very quickly. The pressure will build inside the bottle and the water will spray from the bottle as a gorgeous, though short lived, fountain. Quite exciting, indeed. Did the students guess correctly?

Next time, more science activities to try. Until then, have fun!

Credit Card Comparison Guide

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

Shopping around for a credit card can save you money on interest and fees. You’ll want to find one with features that match your needs. This information can help you

Understand the features of credit cards
Compare credit card features and costs
Know your rights when using your credit card
File a complaint if you have a problem with your credit card

How will you use your card?

The first step in choosing a credit card is thinking about how you will use it.
If you expect to always pay your monthly bill in full–and other features such as frequent flyer miles don’t interest you–your best choice may be a card that has no annual fee and offers a longer grace period.
If you sometimes carry over a balance from month to month, you may be more interested in a card that carries a lower interest rate (stated as an annual percentage rate, or APR).
If you expect to use your card to get cash advances, you’ll want to look for a card that carries a lower APR and lower fees on cash advances. Some cards charge a higher APR for cash advances than for purchases.

What’s the APR?

The annual percentage rate–APR–is the way of stating the interest rate you will pay if you carry over a balance, take out a cash advance, or transfer a balance from another card. The APR states the interest rate as a yearly rate.

How long is the Grace Period?

The grace period is the number of days you have to pay your bill in full without triggering a finance charge. For example, the credit card company may say that you have “25 days from the statement date, provided you paid your previous balance in full by the due date.” The statement date is given on the bill.
The grace period usually applies only to new purchases. Most credit cards do not give a grace period for cash advances and balance transfers. Instead, interest charges start right away.

If you carried over any part of your balance from the preceding month, you may not have a grace period for new purchases. Instead, you may be charged interest as soon as you make a purchase (in addition to being charged interest on the earlier balance you have not paid off). Look on the credit card application for information about the “method of computing the balance for purchases” to see if new purchases are included or excluded. Information on methods of computing the balance is in the section “How is the finance charge calculated?”

These are just some of the considerations you will have to be aware of when choosing a credit card. The bottom line is that you should always read the small print and think about what it is you are agreeing to and whether or not this is what you need.

How To Find Out Wht You Want To Do With Your Life

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

Knowing what you like to do and then finding someone to pay you for it is the key to happiness.

Motivational Speaker, Author and TV show host, Edward W. Smith, who specializes in quick tips on how to move your life ahead even faster, offers this advice on how to find out what you love to do

This is the “manila envelope” technique. Obtain a manila envelope, notepad and pen and carry it with you throughout the day. Each time you see something that interests you, find a way to save it in the envelope. Rip things out of publications, print things off the web, make notes on your pad, whatever, but preserve the thought in some way and put it in the manila envelope. Don t edit or censor your thoughts, if it interests you, put it in the folder. Nothing is too silly or out of bounds in any way. At the end of the day, save the manila envelope and start a new one for the next day.

Do the “manila envelope” exercise each day for 10 days straight. At the end of the 10 days empty all the envelopes and begin to sort the contents by a pattern, or something that lies beneath the specific thing that triggered the attraction to it. Some things were just random ideas, but you will find a pattern of things in others that stayed with you over the 10 days. These ideas that stayed with you over time is where you should concentrate your efforts to find what you truly want to do.

Take these core interests and explore jobs related to them without concern for money, or other factors. Can you do them part time, can you take courses related to them? As you go though you day, constantly look for jobs or careers that relate to the interests you have discovered. Find out what training or experience is required to obtain that job and put together a plan to start down that road. You will then be on your way to your dream job.

School Metal Detectors

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

School metal detectors are commonly used in schools to check violence .These equipments help to detect guns, knifes and other weapons which students may carry into the school campus. School metal detectors help to avoid the fear of violence among children so that they can concentrate on their studies.

Metal detectors are electronic instruments used for identifying different types of metals. They are used for maintaining security, item recovery, archaeological exploration, and geological research. Metal detectors are used in schools for security reasons. Different styles such as beachcomber, hand held, and mounted models are available to suit various needs. Walk over or hand held models of metal detectors are normally used in schools.

School metal detectors are installed in schools with high crime rates, to identify students who bring in undesirable objects concealed in their body. Usually school metal detectors are placed at the entrance of schools. Scanning of all students, staff, and visitors using metal detectors are needed to maintain security. An alarm signal is produced by the equipment if it recognizes a conductive metal or material. With the installation of metal detectors in schools there is a reduction in the number of weapons that come into the school campus.

The main drawback of this facility is that this instrument is unable to distinguish between a gun and a metal belt buckle. To maintain these school metal detectors you need a big budget as these equipments require the services of trained employees to take accurate decisions. It is also a time consuming affair.

School metal detectors cannot stop students who are determined to carry a weapon. They will try all methods to bring weapons to school. But with the installation of these instruments the number of crimes in schools have come down to a great extent

Which Debt Can Be Settled?

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

This is an important issue as not all debts can be settled with regular debt settlement agencies. And thus, prior to hiring the services of such agencies you need to make sure that your particular debts are suitable for settlement or else you would be just wasting money.

Under the right circumstances all debt can be settled, but debt settlement agencies deal only with certain types of debt. Following is a short description of the different types of debt that qualify for a debt settlement process through an agency and those debt types that do not qualify for regular debt settlement processes and need different solutions in order to be cancelled or eliminated.

Debt Types That Qualify For Debt Settlement

The first type of debt that we will briefly explain is credit card debt. Credit card debt is in most cases unsecured debt that features high interest rates compared to other form of debts. Thus, it is extremely important to include this kind of debt in any debt settlement program. Credit card debt certainly qualifies for debt settlement due to its unsecured nature and the repayment flexibility it presents.

The same goes to store card debt. Just like credit card debt, store card debt is unsecured debt and usually charges higher interest rates than credit card debt and personal loans. Thus, it should also be included into a debt settlement program.

Want & Need

Friday, May 30th, 2008

During one of our recent camp our students were taught the topic about Want &amp Need. All of them were enlightened after our camp as they know what are their want and need.

What is a Need?
In wikipedia it is define as “A need is the psychological feature that arouses an organism to action toward a goal and the reason for the action, giving purpose and direction to behavior”

To put in simply a need is something that you have to have

What is a Want?
This is how it is defined in wikipedia, “A want is something desired, distinct from a need which is something that is necessary”. A Want is something that you would like to have.

Most teenagers spend their money on things that they want rather than on things they need. This is because we as the parents have been providing their basic needs for them.
Today teens do not have to worry about most their needs and they probably get a lot of help in their wants too. We the parents try to buy their hearts as we feel guilty that we didn t spent enough time with them.

When our basic needs are satisfied, we tend to escalate wants into needs. For eg: if we haven t had a meal for three days because you have no money to buy food, you absolutely know that a food is a need and the latest CD isn t. But if we get food everyday and never have to think about being hungry, you probably will put great importance on the CD.

To me there s nothing wrong with buying things we want as long as we do it moderately and keep it to a reasonable limit and keep our spending habits in perspective. Let us think carefully about what we want and need. You will realize that most of the things we say we need are really things that we can live without.

Make a list of everything you think you need at this particular time. Then go over each item and really ask yourself if it s a need or a want. Chances are you ll discover the majority of the items on your lists are wants and not needs.

Elk Hunting

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Elk hunting requires intensive study and practice. Elks live in large herds in the woods, and the Rocky Mountains and hills of North America and Europe. Since they live in association with deer, they are most often mistaken by the hunters during the hunt. Elks are hunted for their meat, nutritive velvet antlers or just for the spirit of the game.

An experienced hunter should have complete knowledge of the animal he is after, the places it usually frequents and when it can be found there. Hunting by oneself is risky. It is better to be accompanied by elk hunting guides or outfitters to plan the trip or hunt in a particular area or carry a compass, to avoid getting lost in the woods.

Since elk hunting requires massive effort, it needs suitable preparations. If you are planning to be out hunting for a long time, make sure to take water with you. Wear suitable clothing and fine soled boots while hunting. Camouflage with blaze orange waistcoat and cap. Elks can detect your scent, so it is ideal to use scent eliminators. A lot of practice is required to make good elk calls to win the attention of bulls and calves.

Hunting with the traditional bow and arrow does not guarantee that the animal will be hit. Muzzle-loading rifles offer accurate placements of shots and are therefore popularly used. Always be perfectly practiced and targeted when using rifles and pistols.

An expert hunter can aim a neck shot which kills the animal right away without damaging the meat. Targeting the chest area and shoulder is considered perfect for a quick kill. It is advised to avoid head shots. Never shoot when the animal is moving. This may cause the wounded animal to flee away not to be recovered again and the hunter loses his hunt. After the shot, wait for a couple of hours to let it die before you finally claim the trophy.
