Business Banking – Keeping Your Accounts Healthy

Friday, May 30th, 2008

There’s no room for complacency when it comes to running a business, and running your account is no different. You should check your statements carefully, and have a periodic review of the market to make sure your account is still the best one for your needs.

New accounts and special offers crop up all the time, and it may be worth your while to change banks. You can also point out the competition’s rates when negotiating terms with your own bank – often these are flexible and a bank may offer you improved rates if you hint that you are considering taking your business elsewhere. Stay on top of bank charges, and if any show on your account that you do not understand, contact the British Bankers’ Association for more detailed explanations on charges and interest: www.bba.org.uk

There are ways to minimise charges and run your account as smoothly as possible:

1. Automate Your Account

If you have frequent customers, you could encourage them to make payments by direct debit or standing order. The more electronic payments you have, the fewer charges you will incur. The same goes for your expenses – try to use automated services for all your regular payments.

2. Bank Online

If your bank account has online facilities, make use of them. It is both more efficient and cost effective. Larger businesses may be offered ‘PC banking’, which involves special software being installed on your accounting computer, so that your accounting system is linked directly to your bank.

If you find yourself struggling, for example if cash is short and it’s becoming difficult to meet the repayments on your loan, the best course of action is to visit your bank and renegotiate your account. You should do your best not to exceed any overdraft limit that has been agreed, and stick to the terms of your account. If you break the terms of your agreement there can be stiff penalties, such as referral fees and administration costs.

If you accept a cheque which then bounces, you will lose the money owed to you and also incur a charge. Be sure to write the number of the cheque guarantee card on the back of all cheques

You should also keep your records scrupulously accurate – noting all transactions and crosschecking your records with your bank statements. Not only will this mean you can query any discrepancies, but it will make filling in your tax return much quicker and easier!

The Importance of Financial Education

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Education is not restricted to school. Reading and training are part of your education. Set your mind to making money and you will succeed. Right now you have no idea how much money you will make in your life so don t put any limitations on it. Get into the habit of building a positive image about money,

It may seem a silly thing to do but the results may impress you. Thoughts are things put them to use for you. Think good thoughts and good things will happen

Recently I read a very interesting book from two famous authors Donald J. Trump and Robert Kiyosaki called Why We Want You to Be Rich. Both of these gurus feel that lack of financial education is the cause of the world economic problem. In this book he shares about vision that most people never see. Both of them share what they think and why they think the way they do, through their eyes you will gain additional insight how one can improve your financial future.

Your education fund is the first priority in your goal setting we want to give you a tip on how to make it grow. Once you have set up an account with either your local bank you need to plan how to put money into it.

One of the best ways is make deals with your parents. Tell them college is a big dream of yours and that each month you are going to put $20 into your account. Ask them to match it. Your parents will like that you are helping pay for your education and it shows that you are willing to work for it, suddenly you are getting twice as much money and your account is growing faster than it otherwise.

In the first year you will put $400 into your account and with interest you could have saved over $500 at the end of the year.

Financial education is very important to everyone who wants to seek a better life at a time when we all need to be financially equipped for the future we face.

Dissecting Credit Card Offers

Friday, May 30th, 2008

I always have a large number of doubts when it comes to signs that proclaim “Zero Percent Interest” or “Flat Fifty Percent Off”. At such times the only thought that seems to run through my mind is: “Where is the catch?” There usually is a catch. The question is: Does the catch overpower the benefits? That is the question that I ask myself just before I look for a new credit card or enter a sale. I usually find that the catch is quite insignificant when you take a look at the bigger picture.

I usually have a lot of these cynical moments when I am sifting through a new credit card. It seems to me that there are too many great offers going. It is as though they are too enthusiastic to sell me those credit cards. Why is there so much enthusiasm?

I mean, why would a company offer something like interest free credit cards? What will they get out of it? And what about the zero percent balance transfer credit cards? What is the deal with them?

Well, I think once you do away with the skepticism, you find that most of these ads are more or less true to what they say. A large number of interest free credit cards furnish a deal where you don’t have to pay interest for a given number of months. After all, credit card companies are bogged down by cut-throat competition. Each has to attract more customers than its nearest rival.

The same reasoning holds with 0% balance transfer credit cards. The credit card companies want to do business with you. They want to sell you their credit cards. So they have to take the help of gimmicks like this to win you over to their side. In fact, balance transfer credit cards are a prime example of how credit card companies pull away the customers of other credit card companies.

How does this work? Suppose you have a credit card with one company but wish you could get a different credit card that charges a different rate of interest, you could contemplate about getting a hold of a balance transfer credit card. And there will be lots of cards that make you offers to which saying “No” would be a problem.

Competition is everything in the world today. Everyone is in the rat race to make their business grow, and everyone is in the rat race to win. So even though you should not be taking offers like “Zero Percent Interest” at face value, be aware that you are a likely customer. In this day and age, if you are the customer you will be treated like a king!

3 Easy Steps To Help You Build Good Business Credit

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Do you want to start your own business? Do you have a great business idea? If so, now all you need is business credit. That way you’ll be able to borrow money against your business without having to dip into your personal savings or use your personal credit. This means less risk for you, the owner. Some credit reporting agencies sell a business FICO score based on both the risk of the business and the personal credit of the owner. In some instances, the owner’s personal credit is linked to the business credit, but it’s best to keep them separate if you can. Building your business credit will be completely different from how you buildt your personal credit rate. You also won’t have the same credit protection with business credit, that you do with personal credit.

There are certain steps that you can follow to help make sure your business credit gets off to a great start.

First, you must set up the proper business structure and take the proper steps to ensure your business appears stable to the business credit bureaus. That means getting the right occupational licenses, establish a corporate structure and build a business credit profile. A business credit profile will help you to build business credit without using your personal credit. There are many benefits of having a business credit profile. For one, you will have more cash for the business, convenience in purchasing, protection of your personal assets, limiting of personal liability from the business, and the ability to prepare your business for future lending needs.

Secondly, you need to borrow or buy products and services from companies that will report your credit history to the major business credit reporting agencies such as Dunn and Bradstreet and Experian. Unlike personal credit ratings or FICO scores; your income or income potential, will play a huge roll in your business credit scores. The top FICO scores are reserved for the largest most stable businesses. But don’t be discouraged, with a little time, your business FICO score will skyrocket!

Next, in order to enter the business credit market, you’ll need to do a business credit assessment to determine if you comply with the lender and credit bureau’s requirements. A great place to start is to look for businesses that issue credit without the need for established business or personal credit checks or guarantees. Once you have transacted business with these vendors on credit, you’ll be able to use those credit references to build your credit profile with the credit reporting agencies.

In many states, you can find non-profit organizations and/or government organizations that will help you with setting up business credit. There are often loans available for start-up businesses and sometimes even government grants. Check your state government web sites for such organizations. Many retired owners and businessmen will volunteer to help start-up businesses. By researching your options prior to a business start-up; you will not be struggling later with questions. With any luck building your business credit will be a smooth transaction with a huge net profit for you in the end!

Untapped Genius Everywhere We Go

Friday, May 30th, 2008

There are hundreds of millions of children in the world.
Every child who goes to school has a go at creative writing.
Many do this every day.
Out of the billions of stories children create, every day, out of their own vivid imaginations, none are published.

OK there may be one or two, now and again, that are exceptional and the dedicated teacher or parent brings it to the attention of a publisher.
But this is unlikely.

The section of the population best qualified to write children s stories are mainly ignored by publishers.

And naturally they have a point. Stories such as these are rarely shown to publishers anyway. Instead they are put in a drawer, in a bag, maybe stuck on a wall for a few weeks, hidden away in folders, lost, screwed up, never to be seen or heard of again.

Young people, like adults, will rarely produce a piece of work ready for publishing. Most need plenty of work, re working, even re writing. But it isn t the finished product that s exciting when children write stories, it s the free flowing way their ideas spread across the page.

Perhaps the story comes out in one go, maybe a gem of an idea is hidden in what is otherwise a long, laboured piece of writing. Often this is the only way to get to a deeply hidden thought or concept that we re not even aware exists.

This untapped source of stories has the potential to take children s writing to another level, and not just writing. Young artists are found in every classroom, many of them hiding away doodling in a corner, behind an arm, creating vibrant, brilliant ideas and images that also end up in a drawer, screwed up in a pocket and eventually in the bin.
Few of these budding writers and illustrators will ever put their skills to good use.

The two finest artists I know are both in their forties. One is a carpenter and hates it, the other is a painter and decorator, and he hates it as well. Both spent the majority of their school years getting into trouble and used art as a way of expressing themselves.
Both are musicians too, as many artists are.

They drew caricatures, cartoons, sketched, painted and played their way through school, coming out the other end as fine artists but with no direction.

They both have a love hate relationship with art. Cant live with it, cant live without it, but this I know for sure. If enough people knew what they could do, they would be sought after throughout the world, would never be short of work and be acclaimed everywhere.

Writers, artists.

If this is your calling and you cant get away from the thrill of writing, of creating a piece of art, go for it. Follow that passion wherever it leads, because we cannot see into the future, and Providence has a way of giving us what we least expect, when we least expect to get it, and it comes from the most improbable sources.

Young people and their art, their writing. This is the raw material we re working with, and it is the most exciting, creative place you can imagine.

Rob Daniel is a children s author, creative writing, memory and self-esteem teacher. He lives in beautiful Albany on the south west corner of Western Australia, has a passion for mangos, the Greek Islands and bringing the best out of young people.

The above article mentions two artists. Their names are Dave McCleery and John Arnott. There will be more about these artists at the website chocmint.com chocmint.com The concept of publishing stories and illustrations by young people is addressed at chocmint.com chocmint.com

Rob creates turn the page children s e-books with illustrators from around the world. Car Loans – The Gateway To Automobile Heaven

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Want can be a subtle cancer. It eats you up without you realising anything. The disease’s potency is optimum when the object of craving threatens to dwell permanently in the mind, blatantly surrendering to the notion of never being able to see the light of reality. Picture yourself in the sidewalk, walking ponderously, and a car fit for billboards illuminated by neon signs whizzes past you. It’s a blur. And you barely see enough. Yet, eyes are objects of marvel. They are designed to capture detail. You turn sullen. It does not have to be that way. The car could be yours. There are car loans to make this dream a reality.

The ideal way to get an auto loan is to have a regular income and a good credit history and score. There is a distinct advantage if you are working with a bank or a lender you are long acquainted with. This reflects on your ability to pay the loans on time. The finance process gets arduous with the problem of excess choice. Though, there are enough lenders available – good or bad – to choose from.

Of course, the loan seeker is always looking at a few things. The interest rates, the monthly payment, and the repayment duration – these are the aspects that the loan seeker takes into account. With a low interest rate, the monthly payment becomes less, and so does the overall payment.

There are other loans out there where what you see is not what you get. With some loans, you make end up owing more than the true worth of the car. Some issue prepayment penalties; this means that the borrower cannot sell off his car without incurring a penalty.

The trick here is simple. And, truth be told, a little overstated. A borrower should look for the lowest rate and the shortest repayment term. This comes with extensive, often tiring hours of research work in the Internet. Stay away from taking a longer repayment period, just for the safety of a few months of cushion.

Car loans are offered by banks, private institutions and online. While it is pure conjecture to tell the best from the rest, from the point of view of choice, the online option is unrivaled.

Invoice Factoring Can Save Your Business

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Invoice factoring is the basic practice of selling invoices to financial factoring companies for the purpose of receiving money right away. Smaller companies often fall into the financial trap of not having available resources and therefore sell their invoices to financial agencies in order to gain working capital. This practice does not require the business to swallow more debt and in fact operates in an opposite manner. Small businesses that don’t utilize the financial tool of accounts receivable factoring acquire more debt by waiting for the accounts receivables to be paid.

Invoice factoring is typically used as a measure to avoid falling further into debt. Without this effective financial management tool many businesses have to adopt more loans or alternatively, put up more collateral for existing loans. Invoice factoring is available at a minimal fee, which makes it an attractive substitute to assuming more debt. In fact, accounts receivable factoring fees are usually set up by way of discount and these rates differ from individual company to company. The great advantage to this type of liquidation is that there are no interest fees to pay and the result is most often better profit margins.

There are many financial companies that offer invoice factoring services. The individual agencies will set up a company with the right set of accounts receivable factoring parameters. After the professionals from the invoice factoring agency assess the individual situation, they will set up the receivables to be factored and proceed accordingly.

Financial agencies that offer accounts receivable factoring are located worldwide and support every industry under the sun. Even truck drivers can sell their invoices to an invoice factoring financial service to free up capital fast. One of the most attractive aspects to an accounts receivable factoring agency is that they customize the service to each business’s individual requirements.

There are as many different types of invoice factoring agencies, as they are rates for factoring invoices. Some purchase the invoices no matter what the receivable total is and some accounts receivable factoring agencies will only liquidate invoices that accumulate more than $100, 000. Generally the higher the invoice factoring total is, the lower the rates will be to take advantage of this financial escape. In cases where the total is in excess of a hundred thousand, a solid accounts receivable factoring agency will offer rates that can be as low as two per cent!

There are many different types of invoice factoring agencies. For example, some agencies will only serve those businesses in the medical profession while others only serve purchase order factoring. There are some accounts receivable factoring agencies that are specifically designed to cater to small business and offer many great advantages that a larger agency wouldn’t necessarily offer. Despite the type of invoice factoring agency that is required for every individual business need, accounts receivable factoring typically happens within a 24 hour time period.

Getting A Home Improvement Mortgage

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

For every creature on this planet, a dwelling is essential. It not only shelters one from all the natural exigencies, but also acts as an emotional blanket to cover one in times of stress and need. We as Humans have a lot of animal like tendencies. We prefer to hibernate during the winters mostly. At least we leave all our important business activities for the springtime. It is during this season that people decide to refurbish and do up their houses. Maybe they want to sell their house or maybe they are plain sick and tired of the old look and want to go in for a makeover. After all if humans can do it, why can’t houses look good? This is where a home improvement mortgage comes handy.

Why I have specified on the seasons has a secret behind it. During wintertime when you do not have much to do, you can actually load your piggy bank. You should try to Save as much as possible. If you hang around for a very long time doing no saving, it will only be more expensive for you. It will also cost you a lot of time. Most of the times, the money we save is not enough. We then go in for a home improvement mortgage. They are actually loans that are utilized to fund for the upgrading of your home. These mortgages are extremely beneficial for us because they boost the worth of our habitats. Now what can these improvements be like? They can be things like -

Major repairs

Total renovation like remake of toilet or kitchen.

Upgrading of garden etc.

There are plenty of home improvement mortgages available. It is for you to decide which one is the most suitable for you. A comprehensive table can be made which can include all the computed as well as probable costs. The calculations should also include the total value you are anticipating. You see a foresight is a must in this kind of planning. This is not only for your own good; it’s also very essential, as you may have to show it to your mortgage provider. One has to do a lot of survey before going for this kind of preparation. It is also better to take the opinion, calculations and costs from other service providers.

You can go in for a lot of choices here. There are a number of home improvement mortgages available -

Loans for refinancing

First and second mortgages

Personal loans

Donations

A lot of queries play hide and seek in our minds. What will be the monthly installments? What are the tax repercussions? What are the likely deductions on the income tax? The most important question of all, whether the improvements that we embark on will add to the worth of our home and will it be more than the home improvement mortgage that we have applied for? Even while taking a loan, the first step is to discuss all terms and conditions with the lender who is providing you with the home improvement mortgage. Possible negotiations can also take place. You can even avail of a personal loan that has been paid out by a finance company or bank.

One must realize that now the home improvement expenses have increased a lot. There are lots of people who have the money to make their homes look brand new again. There are of course many who still need some support. For them, the home improvement mortgage is really a God gift.

Help for Parents: Top 5 Parenting Concerns – Conquered!

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Whether it s looking for information on the safety of your toddler s toys or finding out about your teen s chats, searching for financial help for single parents, or looking for advice on a teen s job, isn t it amazing how much time you spend worrying about your child? We are all looking for help as parents.

Isn t it funny how the minute that the nurse hands you that tiny bundle how your whole world changes? You were care-free, you were spontaneous, you were a pretty cool person you hold that baby for 5 minutes and you turn into your parents! It starts out with colic and teething. Is your child developing as quickly as they should? Why aren t they talking yet? What worries you changes with their height.

Then suddenly it s off to school and there s a whole 8 hours in their day that is unaccounted for your input seems to be minimal and your opinion counts for less. You hear about something horrible happening to a kid somewhere and you instantly feel nauseous. Could that happen to your child?

As they get older, you start to wonder if they re going to be able to make it all. How can someone who is 13 and can t remember their gym uniform going to hold down a job at 16? Or go off to college and live on their own at 18? And if they don t pull up their grades, are they even getting into college?

We always hear about how raising a child is so different now, what parents have to worry about is so much more difficult. I believe it s been the same set of worries since time began, just with a different name. We just have more ways of KNOWING what we re all thinking now. So what are we all so worried about?

1. My Child is not safe online

We have all heard the horror stories and watched the news reports. Predators are out there, it s true. Has the Internet given them a whole new venue? You bet. How can you protect your child? Give them something to do online! Do they really need another 4 hours a night of idle chit-chat with their friends? Why not give the opportunity to have an online business and make some money!

2. My Child is not learning ANYTHING in school

I ve been there, you ve been there you ask your child what they did at school today, “Nothing.” Or better what they did do at school that day had nothing to do with learning it actually stopped whatever learning could have taken place. Do the public schools in this country need improvement? Most definitely! What can you do about it? Make sure they re learning at home, from you and other sources you support about business. How could you involve them more in your own business? How could they be working? What could they be given the opportunity to learn then?

3. My Child spends every minute of life (fill in the blank, watching TV, playing video games, on the phone)

Gone are the days when most of us have a farm so the kids have a few hours of chores to do. Keeping up with what little household responsibilities they may have takes a matter of minutes. Homework is a breeze, which leaves hours of free time that must be filled. Think about how much better that time could be spent, working on a business. And they would have something to show for it!

4. My Child has terrible self-esteem

Ugh, teenage angst the roller coaster ride of emotions, one day you re on top of the world and the next you want to hide in your room and never show your face again. It s difficult to feel your best when you ve got all this inner turmoil and energy with nothing to do but focus on your problem “du jour”. Having a part-time job or their own business can do wonders for a child suffering with poor self-esteem. The amount of money they make is secondary to the VALUE they will associate with their time and their ideas. When you know your time and ideas are valuable, other day to day problems seem less overwhelming.

5. My Child Couldn t Be Responsible for a Hole in the Wall

Sometimes don t you wish there was a video that you could play that would just cover everything for you? The standard video of, “Call at this time and don t forget that thing, and make sure you bring home this book and where s your lunch?” It would be such a time saver! If you re tired of being the one who always has to cover what your child forgot, lost, broke or didn t do, give them something really big to be responsible for! Something that if they forget, lose, break or don t do what their supposed to, it s all on them. The consequences for not running their business in a responsible manner will be huge and make them broke! And you can save all that time you d normally spend nagging.

Whatever your child-rearing worries are, much can be accomplished through giving teens jobs, or better yet, starting a business. Your child will be learning, growing, utilizing their time, becoming more responsible and paving the way for future success. Best of all, they will be learning how to think for success: find something you love and DO it. If they can do that one thing, not only are they going to grow up “OK”, but they will have a happier, financially abundant future.

And you can stop worrying. There is help for parents – and it s in helping your child help themselves.
