How to Avoid Certain Death In Trading

Friday, October 31st, 2008

The futures and Forex markets empty the accounts of thousands of traders every year. For most entering trading, and this is true for over 90%, trading commodities means a very certain financial death.

The markets are ruthless and will send people home empty-handed without a care.

The opportunities for making money are numerous, and the leverage entices so many people to jump in head first, that it is unreal. It is the ultimate, white collar get-rich-quick arena.

Unfortunately, like all other areas that the get-rich-quick opportunities are being sold, the ratio of losers to winners is absolutely horrific.

First thing to do to avoid being one of the carcasses left on the battlefield is to realize that trading is not for everyone. It is definitely not for the squeamish or weak of heart. You’ve got to have resources and a backbone of steel.

Secondly, realize that it does take knowledge. If it were that easy to make millions in the markets, don’t you think that it would be saturated with people by now? Just like any other business endeavor, you have to have a clue as to what you’re doing. No one is standing at the gates with a bag of money to hand you, just because you showed up. You actually do have to “earn” your fortune here.

Third, recognize that it takes skill. For every opportunity to make money in trading, there are ten ways to lose it. There are several skills necessary to spot the opportunities, but more importantly the skills to plan worthwhile trades and then to properly execute them to show a profit at the end of the month.

You have to first know what skills to develop, and then have the fortitude to actually develop those skills and put them into practice. Too many people want to ignore this part and just go straight to collecting the profits without any effort.

Fourth is to expand your awareness. Get past the greed factor that pressures you into wishing every trade to be that home run that let’s you retire this month. If you want this to be a profit center for years to come, then treat it as such: long term. Get your focus on doing it right the first time around through preparation, learning and a long term focus.

The other aspect of awareness is self-awareness. Make sure that you’re trading with a system that matches your emotional style. You wouldn’t get into an occupation that disagreed with your natural tendencies and desires would you? Would you take a job that required 80% travel if you hated to travel? NO! The only way to trade successfully for the long term and enjoy the process is to be aware of your own tendencies and desires, and use a strategy and system that are in alignment with who you are as a person.

Most importantly, you’d better be trading with true risk capital. If you’re trading with “scared” money, that is money that you really can’t afford to lose, then your days as a trader are numbered. You’d probably be better off quitting right now and taking home whatever is in your account.

If you HAVE to make money with your trading capital, you are going to lose it, almost guaranteed. The emotional pressures in trading are enormous, and adding the need to make money will only cloud and distort your thinking to the point that you make poor trading decisions. In trading, the leverage will put you on the path to ruin with the first major mistake that you make, if you’re an emotional mess.

The best way to avoid certain death in trading is to first safeguard yourself against all the pitfalls that are there. If you are naïve about trading, your biggest risk is your ignorance. The pitfalls are killers in trading, and you can’t afford to fall prey to the traps that await you.

Survival requires wisdom, prudence and good guidance.

If Jesus Came With You to School, What Would You Do? (Part 2)

Friday, October 31st, 2008

“If Jesus came with me to school, I would respect him and everyone else, too. I would not hit, would not call people names, and I would not push,” says Michael, age 6.

We have a tendency to act one way around some people and put our best foot forward around others. Jesus said, “Inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.” (Matthew 25:40) Oops!

We live in a time when God indwells his people. Living in light of this kingdom reality should elevate relationships with Christians to a different sphere. It should also have a sobering effect on the way Christians treat non-Christians. God created all people in his image, even atheists. We should be courteous and show respect to all, especially to those with whom we disagree.

“I would tell Jesus about my life and what s hard for me at home and at school,” says Joe, 9. “I would be very excited if he was here with me. I would feel like there could be no reason to fear him at all because it would be so good with him.

“It would be a dream come true. Thank you, Lord. Thank you, I would say. I would travel around the world telling others about Jesus and make more Christians in the world. That would be great!”

Thank you, Joe, for sharing your unbridled joy in the Lord. God wants all his children to live free in anticipation of seeing him. True confidence in life comes from being rightly related to God. Living apart from God breeds fear because we re limited to our own resources.

I love God s assurance to his people through the prophet Isaiah: “Fear not, for I am with you be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)

Jesus appeared to scared disciples on Easter morning in a resurrection body and said, “Peace to you.” The Scripture records, “But they were terrified and frightened, and supposed they had seen a spirit.” (Luke 24:37)

When Jesus challenged them to examine his body and opened their understanding of the Old Testament concerning himself, faith began to replace fear.

When Christians live by faith, they stop worrying about what people think about them and start telling others about Jesus. The Apostle John wrote, “There is no fear in love but perfect love casts out fear because fear involves torment.” (I John 4:18)

“If Jesus came to school with me, I would let him sit next to me,” says Kelly, 9. “I would listen to him to see if he had an idea to grow closer to God. When the time would come to say goodbye, I would pray he would come back again. When I would come home, I would hope to see him just sitting there on my bed waiting just for me.”

Kelly, thanks for this wonderful image of Jesus sitting on your bed waiting for you to come home from school. It brings to mind someone who sat on Easter morning. After an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and rolled back the stone of Jesus tomb, the Scripture records that he sat on it. (Matthew 28:2)

Because an angel sat on a stone and announced Jesus resurrection, we can sit, stand and walk with him wherever he leads us.

Think about this: If you re a Christian, Jesus is in you and with you wherever you go.

Memorize this truth: “I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)

Ask this question: Do you have a sense of God s presence at school, work, home or wherever you go?

How To Start Investing On The Stock Exchange

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Without a doubt in my mind, I believe that the main reasons that most people are unsuccessful as investors are a lack of both preparation and discipline.

Investment in any form is a show of faith in the future, optimism if you prefer. Whether you are buying property, antiques or stocks, you are displaying your positive outlook for your future years.

Yet despite this obviously good intention, many people make dreadful investments and lose large amounts of money. This optimism can become blinding and prevents us from seeing obvious risks or pitfalls. If we do see them, we may discount them or fail to understand their potential implications.

Therefore, understanding the nature of risk is a key lesson that all investors should try to learn before they begin to invest directly in companies quoted on the stock exchange.

For years, investment newcomers were advised to start by choosing a few companies and investing on paper. In other words, the new investor would follow the progress of the company and share price without actually buying. Each day a new plot on a hand drawn graph of the company would help the investor to understand just a little more.

Over time, the investor might spot trends between the company and a leading index or sector. The price might move in odd and unpredictable ways causing a desire for more understanding and education to explain these mysteries.

This desire for new knowledge is a core trait of successful investors. To succeed in stock exchange investments, it is vital to firstly keep up to date, but if possible to stay ahead of the pack. This might mean reading trade journals, the annual reports of competing firms, company reviews, interviews and much more. This ongoing education is vital to success.

As computer technology has advanced and investment analysis tools that only a few years ago were expensive and highly specialised have proliferated, the basic learning process for an investor has changed.

Should it?

If plotting points on a graph hepled to truly understand the workings of a moving average or stop loss system, why stop? This used to be ‘investment 101′ but is now a task to be downloaded. For many investors, it was the most valuable investment they made. They learned to invest and to understand the workings of the stock exchange. They learned a skill, for others a trade.

This time and investment in learning will help the decision making process of an investor for years to come. It may both earn and save many thousands as the years pass.

Is this a process that you have taken? To accompany all the reading and theory that goes with investment generally, paper trading is an important pillar in understanding both investments and the stock exchange.

The Model Student – A Red Flag for Parents!

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Are you frustrated with your child s learning issues and the public school system?

- Has your child been diagnosed with a disability?

- Is the teacher (they call them now “facilitators”) annoyed with the activity level of your child?

- Is your child failing to understand the lessons because they don t pay attention?

- Is your child a daydreamer?

- Is your child failing to process information correctly? Is it just a brain thing?

- Does your child talk too much?

- Is your child disruptive or too social?

- Has your child been sent to the mental health professional (required in every public school) for evaluation? Did you give your permission?

- Is the teacher recommending pharmaceuticals.

Do you think it s your child s fault?

It is NOT your child s fault! And don t think the answer is in pharmaceuticals. The answer is YOU!

Don t feel alone. Many children struggle in school unnecessarily and never get any help. If your child does not fit into the model demanded by the school with its many requirements and mandates, the teachers try to convince you there must be something wrong with the child! The structure of the school is never suspect.

There is a movement afoot to negate natural learning, creativity and curiosity of the child along with the devaluing the role of the parents. (Remember “It Takes a Village”.)

Many parents are willing to go along with this because it requires less time and creativity on their part plus if things go aria they can blame someone else!

Let s just take a moment and examine the model, AKA the ideal child/student in the eyes of the public institutions.

- This ideal student sits in his chair without squirming, wiggling, moving or talking.

- This student does not speak unless called upon by the teacher.

- This student does not have contact with other students in the class except at recess or when working on a team project.

- This student, after sitting, playing and participating at the appropriate times during the school day waits in line for the bus, and sits on the bus without moving or talking too loudly until they get home.

If conflict erupts between students, the teacher mediates with conflict resolution methodology. And if both students do not relinquish their point, agree or apologize, the uncooperative student is sent to the mental health professional for evaluation.

Now just stand back and look at this model student!

- Is this the way nature intended children to act?

- What are the children learning? Are they learning to be creative? To be self-confident? To be self-starters? To be leaders? Or even being taught that being a leader is a positive trait?

- Do you value the traits of this model student that is a result of this environment?

I hope your answer is no!

The demands made on children to fit into this prescribed environment are against nature. They are contrary to the needs of a developing human being! They are in direct opposition to developing the characteristics that made our nation great!

So, what can YOU do about It?

Take control of what, when and how your children learn. If you are concerned about the current culture, opt out and create your own. You can home school!

Contrary to public opinion, home schooled children are self-starters who develop the self-confidence to know what they know, what they don t know, and how to find what they need to know. They have the creativity to think outside the box. Socially they have many opportunities to join clubs, field trip groups, study groups, and teams. They are accustomed to being with people of different groups. Different ages, sexes, colors, ethnicities, and religions. Because of this exposure their knowledge, interests and experiences are far more varied and expansive than the public educated child.

In addition to seeing pictures of things in text books, home schooled children have the flexibility to go out and see things first hand and have a multitude of exciting experiences. The world is their classroom and the parents are the teachers who take any moment and turn it into a lesson, regardless of a prescribed class time.

The benefits of home schooling are limitless and the drawbacks are manageable. Will your turn to pharmaceuticals or allow the real child to develop? The power is in your hands!

Focus On Your Fraud Alerts With This LifeLock Review

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Fraud alerts in your credit reports may spell the difference between losing your identity or putting it under lock and key. Consider the following LifeLock review:

As millions in the United States are victimized by identity thieves, it becomes very important for everyone, especially children, to set fraud alerts in their credit reports with the credit bureau agencies: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion.

But our LifeLock review says fraud alerts are only part of the bigger picture. We reiterate that the fraud alarms would not be enough to stem the onslaught of identity thieves preying on identities at every opportunity. What is needed is a more pro-active approach to curb identity theft.

Thankfully, there is this LifeLock Review which will orient you on the present state of identity theft in the country as well as how to combat it.

IDENTITY THEFT

Through our LifeLock review, we confirm there are different forms of identity theft. There is criminal identity theft, which occurs when a person uses the information of another person to get a driver’s license. There is also identity cloning, which happens when information on people is collected and then sold to the black market.

Identity theft victims usually find out that they have been victimized when they are denied credit, mortgage or loan, or are receiving bills or credit cards they never requested, as pointed out by this LifeLock review.

By taking on a new identity, a criminal is able to commit crime theft because proofs of identification are easy to obtain and it’s hard to spot if they are fakes. Clerks of credit issuers are usually not trained to spot fakes. Credit bureau agencies, on the other hand, just happen to record movements in credit reports, unless the fraud alerts are set in. And even then, even with a fraud alert on, a client will have to do all the dirty work of cleaning up his credit report.

LIFELOCK REVIEW AND PROACTIVITY

LifeLock Review asserts the practicality of getting LifeLock as it is a proactive identity thief protection agency. It knows a lot what to do with the fraud alert in one’s credit report, if the alert sounds off.

With a fraud alert on, credit issuers will be required to call a client before approving an application, sending out pre-approved cards in the mail, or increasing the berth in credit limit. The fraud alerts is meant to warn creditors that a thief might be using the client’s identity, and thus, the client’s identity must be verified.

Just setting the alarm on is enough reason for LifeLock clients to plunk $110 annually for LifeLock dentity theft protecting system and we have regularly stressed this in our LifeLock Review. After setting the alarm, clients typically decrease the number of pre-approved credit cards they get in the mail.

When the fraud alerts are in place, our LifeLock Review can assure LifeLock clients that the company will review a client’s credit reports regularly – every 90 days. In case there is a fraudulent entry, LifeLock Review cites the ways by which LifeLock will solve the situation by (a) filing the necessary paperwork at the credit bureaus, (b) talking to creditors, and (c) filing police reports.

However, what makes LifeLock great is its assurance that if a client actually loses money to identity theft while still in under the LifeLock program, the company will pay the loss for up to $1 million.

Our LifeLock review has found the company receiving praises in the media for spreading the news of LifeLock’s nearly fool proof anti-identity theft system; and LifeLock was mentioned in over 250 news stories in The Wall Street Journal, MSNBC, CNN, CNBC, Wired, CBS Early Show and ABC News Now, among others.

LifeLock is a company that has been recognized for being ISO 27001 certified for data and operational security.

The First Steps In Homeschooling

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Education is a very important aspect in a human being s existence. He needs education to nurture his craft, hone his talents, and provide him with all the possible answers to all of the wonders in this world.

Parents know this fact, that s why they would always want the best for their children. In this manner, when the concept of home schooling was introduced into the society, they have been astonished with the fact that there are still other ways in educating their children.

At first, opting for home schooling is such an overwhelming matter. Most parents thought that it is impossible to teach a child through home schooling method.

On its basic concept, home schooling refers to the alternative way of educating children. It differs from the usual type of schooling because the learning process is done at home and the teachers are usually the parents themselves. They only use a particular type of teaching method that can be obtained in different institutions that provide home schooling programs.

Home schooling had provided many advantages and benefits to both parents and children. This is why many parents have opted for home schooling in providing their child the indispensable education that their children need.

However, some parents find home schooling a daunting task. So, for parents who find home schooling a bit of an overwhelming task, here is a list of some tips on how to get you started in home schooling your child:

1. Arrive at a decision

The problem that most parents encounter when opting for home schooling is the fact that they find it hard to finally decide whether to home school their child or not. This is because deciding on this kind of thing is relatively important especially because the future of the child is dependent on it.

However, the choice should be based on the capacity of the parents to conform to the requirements in home schooling their child. They should be able to wholly participate with whatever items that were entailed in the program in order to provide the best education for their children.

2. Keep in mind that home schooling is a process

Since home schooling is a process, parents who want to home school their children should take things one at a time. For instance, if they have a pre-school child, they should focus more on what pre-school students should learn. They should not delve more on how to teach higher levels of education that are fit for students in higher levels.

3. Know your state laws regarding home schooling

In the United States, each state has its own laws regarding home schooling. Hence, it is best to know what your state asserts about home schooling so that you can provide the best education for your children in conformity with the law.

4. Look for a support group

Home schooling should not be the sole responsibility of the parents. That is why it is important for the parents to find a local support group, wherein they can mingle with other homeschoolers who can provide them with additional pointers regarding the process.

Each member in the support group can help each other regarding the best technique in teaching their children.

5. Do your homework

Nothing can get you started on the right track than doing your homework first. In this way, you will be able to know the important details you need to be familiar with in order to provide the best education for your children.

Knowing what you have to do will give you the best guidance in home schooling.

6. Identify your child s learning manner

It is best to assess your child s learning manner first before you choose on a particular home schooling method. Conforming to your child s learning manner will provide the best way on how to home school your child.

There are many choices available when teaching your child through a home school program. Though it is still best to always pattern the program that you will choose on your child s learning style.

7. Organize the things needed in home schooling

Just like a typical school, home schooling your children would also need different materials and a proper place where they can easily and comfortable learn new things each day.

Hence, it s best to organize the place first by providing them with an adequate space for their learning. Most children would respond to the process easily if they were comfortable with the place where their classes are held.

8. Have a budget for home schooling

Some parents tend to over indulge with the materials needed in home schooling. It does not necessarily mean that because you have lowered your expenses because you have opted to home school, as compared to sending your children into a typical public or private school, you can spend more.

It is still a must that you have to set a budget for home schooling. There are many books and other materials that can be found on the Internet which are definitely priced cheaper.

Indeed, home schooling is not just a process but also a lifestyle. It s something that parents should be best acquainted with in order to give their children with the best education they need.

Ski Boots — Testing 1,2,3

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Since the initiation of the turn starts with the foot, and the foot rests inside the boot, it seems logical to begin this ski equipment series of articles with the ski boot. If your boots are uncomfortable, don’t flex adequately, or your feet are out of alignment, your performance and technique will be adversely affected. In addition, foot comfort and alignment are critical for expert skiers, since they affect the ability to maintain a balanced stance.

Softer Ski Boots for Shaped Skis

With the advent of shaped skis, subtle foot-and-ankle steering has almost replaced the need to apply strong forward pressure to the tips of the skis. To compensate, boot manufacturers began to make ski boots with more natural flex built right into the design. The result is a softer more comfortable ski boot, with better handling characteristics.

With regards to the aspiring all-terrain skier who has recently purchased shaped skis or is contemplating a new pair of super side-cuts, we’ll take a look at a number of different manufacturers and models in a future article. The ski boots we examine will be geared to the expert skier. First, we’ll cover the following topics:

Stance Test
Knee Tracking Test
Ankle Flexion Test
To get a Good Fit find a Good Fitter

In this way, you’ll be knowledgeable about your own feet and stance, as well as about boot mechanics and terminology when you approach your local boot fitter.

For those who are happy with their straight-sided or subtle side-cut skis, and conventional ski boots, please stay with us especially if you are having trouble with your boots in terms of fit, comfort, or stiffness. You may just need an external flex adjustment, an internal modification to eliminate a pressure point, or a foot bed to replace the original insole that came with your ski boots.

Stance Test

To ski like an expert, you need a stable platform for your feet, and your body must be in alignment. How important is it for you to ride a flat ski? If you are a beginner, maybe it’s not that important. If you are an aspiring expert, proper alignment is essential. Put another way, a strong stable foot that’s properly balanced makes for a strong skier.

In this section, and the next two, we’ll examine whether or not you have stance issues and alignment problems. To test if you have a problem with your stance, stand in front of a mirror and slowly bring your legs together.

If your knees touch before your ankles, you’re knock-kneed.
If your ankles touch before your knees, you’re bow-legged.
If they both meet at the same time, you’re from another planet.

What’s best? A slightly knock-kneed stance is considered to be best for downhill skiing. However, too much knock is not good. In addition, all bow-legged stances make it difficult to accurately pressure the edges of your skis. Make a note of your stance, so you can discuss with your boot fitter.

Knee Tracking Test

Knee Tracking tests to see whether or not your knees track straight when you flex forward.

Find a partner to help you measure.
Stand with your feet six to eight inches apart.
Measure the distance between your knees with a tape measure.
Flex forward and ensure that your heels remain on the floor.
Now, measure the distance between your knees again.

If the distance between your knees increases or decreases, your foot is rolling inward or outward, respectively. Ideally, you want your knees to track straight when you flex forward. If they don’t, it’s a sign that your foot is collapsing. You may need the support offered by a foot bed, which is a custom insole molded for your particular foot. Make a note of your test result, so you can discuss with your boot fitter.

Ankle Flexion Test

It is critical for the expert skier to find out whether or not he/she is transferring energy efficiently to the front of the boot. The following test can be used to determine your flexion range.

Find a partner to help you with this test.
Stand with your feet six to eight inches apart.
Flex forward and ensure that your heels remain on the floor.

If you can flex the front of your knees forward to a point between the base of your big toe and approximately one inch beyond it, you have a good range of flexion. However, if your knees stop at your instep or go way past the big toe, you need to have your boots flex-tuned for your particular lower body. Make a note of this test result, so you can discuss with your boot fitter.

To get a Good Fit find a Good Fitter

Armed with your stance, knee tracking, and ankle flexion test results and a pair of ski socks that you will be wearing during the ski season, it’s time to visit a reputable ski shop in your area. What do you mean by a reputable ski shop?

A sporting goods store sells all types of equipment, whereas a ski shop specializes in ski equipment and clothes in the fall and winter months. A good ski shop will have trained and experienced ski boot fitters on staff. If you can’t find such a store locally, drive to the nearest town or city which has a shop suited to your needs.

Comfort and Performance

Once inside the ski shop, prepare to spend three to four hours for a proper fit. Yes, three to four hours! You’ll be wearing the boots for the next five to ten years, so it’s imperative that you spend the time initially to get the best fit. As an aspiring expert, you want the best fit possible, so you can reap the best of both worlds. You need to strike a balance between comfort and performance.

In terms of comfort, the expert skier needs a boot that he or she buckles up in the morning, and rarely needs to adjust throughout the day. There should be no pain, pinching, or pressure points, and your feet should never get numb or cold. The fit should be so good that you don’t mind leaving them tightened up during your lunch break.

In terms of performance, aspiring experts need boots that they hardly know they are wearing. The boot should feel like an extension of the foot. When you roll your ankle and foot, even slightly, you should get a lightning fast response from the inside of the boot to the edge of the ski. The time lag should be minimal.
